MTS Gets Accreditation for Processing Biometrics of Russian Citizens | Publications of the Sinimex company
MTS became the first telecom operator to receive state accreditation for working with biometric data of Russians. Since January 1, 2024, the accreditation procedure has become mandatory for companies.

As of the end of January 2024, the list of accredited entities includes nine companies: Rosselkhozbank, Alfa-Bank, VTB Bank, Ak Bars Bank, Sberbank, Post Bank, Ovision, Innovative Technologies, and MTS.

The accreditation allows MTS to process biometric data in the Unified Biometric System, as well as provide relevant services to companies that do not have a sufficient technological base or the ability to obtain accreditation on their own. In addition, processing biometrics through the commercial biometric system allows market players to reduce costs due to more favorable conditions and will greatly simplify technological implementation.

Pavel Myshev, Key account director at the Russian IT company Cinimex, believes that obtaining accreditation for processing biometrics is necessary and is primarily a security issue: “Obtaining such licenses protects citizens’ data from uncontrolled collection and ensures their safe storage in the Unified Biometric System. Perhaps this step will also have a positive impact on people who, at this stage, are afraid to hand over biometric data without a guarantee from the state. With regard to a bank, obtaining accreditation can become a security blanket for customers. In this instance, they will be able to open up new opportunities for online banking.”
