Import Substitution: A Definite Trend for 2025

Import Substitution: A Definite Trend for 2025 | Publications of the Sinimex company

The second release in the “IT Trends 2025” series by the analytical portal IaaSSaaSPaaS is dedicated to the main aspects and challenges of the import substitution process.

Import substitution became one of the key trends in the Russian economy after the imposition of Western sanctions in 2014 — and especially after the events of 2022.

This process involves replacing imported goods and services with domestic equivalents to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.

In 2025, this trend remains relevant and continues to be a significant direction in the country’s economic development.

In the IT sector, this means developing domestic software, operating systems, and cloud solutions, and replacing foreign IT products with Russian alternatives.

Pavel Myshev, Deputy Director for Key Accounts at CINIMEX, explained to the publication why the import substitution trend will remain strong in 2025.
